In addition to my research and volunteer work, I've also extended much of my time towards mentoring undergraduates in groups ranging from 1:1 laboratory and AWIS STEMentorship to 100+ student lecture halls. My previous tutoring experiences leveraged my ability to hone in on my mentees' target goals and break down the process to an achievable and sustained growth.• I mentored 5+ undergraduates guiding them through the evaluating scientific publications to design, conduct, analyze, and interpret their scientific findings, resulting in one undergraduate presenting their research at a regional conference.• I instructed and tracked the progress of 150+ students over four semesters ranging from teaching first-year biological fundamentals to graduating seniors scientific experimental design, analysis, interpretation, and presentation.

My research focused on the immune cell of the central nervous system (CNS) called microglia. Microglia are essentially the trash collectors of the CNS, whose primary role is to clear the CNS of any waste that may cause damage to our system. Utilizing the zebrafish model, my research aimed to understand the subtle activation changes that occurred as a result of the, or lack thereof, trash clearance. I presented my research at three regional scientific conferences, including both poster and oral presentations. This introduced big data analyses, such as RNAseq, previously untrained in the lab.

Anthill Pub was one of those hidden gems of craft brew-only bars before the explosion of the craft beer movement. With priority claim to the most coveted beers, such as Pliny the Younger, staff members were highly educated on the nuances between beer varieties for proper recommendations to our guests. You may be surprised at how much microbiology goes into a cold brew.• I managed 8-10 employees, daily financial records, and bookkeeping to track finances and inventory to ensure constant replenishment of money and goods in cash-only establishment.• I onboarded 5 staff members to ensure a friendly, open environment and maintain excellent service that to ensure livelihood of our establishment.• I maintained relationships with local Southern California craft beer distributors to develop collaborative agreements on stock and seasonal specialty brews.

T cell activation is a critical part of our adaptive immune system to protect our bodies from pathogens. However, this activation must be properly regulated to during injury to prevent our immune cells from targeting our own cells, resulting in autoimmune diseases. Using the mouse model and cell culture techniques, I analyzed components of the autophagy, or recycling, pathway to decipher the component’s role in rescuing the T cells from a form of programmed cell death called necroptosis. Limitations of a smaller lab has developed my troubleshooting ability to imagine creative ways in project designing.•I was promoted from an incoming student to managing my own project, maintaining animal husbandry of mice colonies, and mentoring new incoming students, all within 8 months.•I organized and presented my research weekly at lab meetings to gain and give constructive feedback on the progress of projects of 5-10 lab members.
