Prior to a long career in the data world, I held numerous roles in hospitality, real estate & property management (commercial and both long- and short-term rentals), legal and medical firms, marketing, publishing, and even accounting. Oh - did some waitressing and even fast food WAY back in the day. The past dozen years following that data career have been total immersion in Maui’s short-term rental arena, which calls on every working experience I’ve ever had. - Over 20 years experience in database design, management, and performance, with a strong focus on data quality, metadata development, and scalability- Data mining and analytics, including automation, distribution, drilldown- Data warehouse/OLAP development and reporting- Several years consulting/instructing in SQL, reporting/analysis, data administration, data quality- Experience in QA testing, user acceptance testing, UML, data modeling, user documentation, and metadata documentation.- Database maintenance/administrationI started down this path with my own business specializing in setting up applications and databases for small businesses (1-10 employees) who didn't have the expertise in-house and often weren't sure what they needed in the way of software or data management.That led to a career in the software industry supporting medium to large businesses with reporting and analytics where I discovered that my previous 16 years working in various industries were a huge bonus applying technology to real-world problems. Communication has been a key asset: translating technological concepts into end-user and management terminology, calculating cost of ownership and ROI on shared infrastructure, and correlating data warehouse development and reporting directly to business initiatives in bottom-line terms.That ability to relate to all levels of management and end-users, as well as customers, created a demand for SQL instruction, reporting classes, and data quality classes.
