First and foremost a Permaculturist, I received my PDC from Midwest Permaculture. While rooted in agriculture, Permaculture pervades all disciplines as a sustainable systems approach to problem solving. There are limitless practical applications of this knowledge base.I am also an honors graduate of the Civil Engineering program at Milwaukee Area Technical College. My time at M.A.T.C. has given me a foundation in many aspects of Civil Engineering, Land Surveying, and CAD Design. Studying at M.A.T.C. I also obtained certification as a Certified Survey Tech 1 and Portland Cement Concrete Tech.I have spent several years working in various positions within the landscaping industry, everything from digging, to design, to project management. I am currently employed as a Project Manager and Certified Playground Safety Inspector with GRG Playscapes, a natural playground design/build company in SE Wisconsin. Prior to GRG I was employed by Highland Community School as the Director of Facilities & Maintenance. While there, my goal was to provide the best possible learning environment to the staff and students through demonstrative and/or functional examples of sustainable facilities operations.Collaborating with staff, parents, and community partners to transform the school grounds into a Permaculture oasis in the heart of Milwaukee. The resulting HCS Natural Grounds Redevelopment Project planted over 40 trees and shrubs and adding over 6000 prairie plants, which created over 8000 ft2 of native plant restoration, further 1200 ft2 of rain garden were constructed. In collaboration with Growing Power the HCS Community constructed the first GP hoop houses at a Milwaukee Public School. These hoop houses capture rainwater and the storage tanks are pumped via electricity produced by a solar cart. Working with the City of Milwaukee's Environmental Collaboration Office and MMSD, 3 bioswales were built on campus which remove over 1.5 million gallons of runoff annually. In addition to the impact on the environment the bioswales have the additional value of normalizing green infrastructure for our students.
