It’s always hard to summarize who you are, but here’s my best shot at it. -- Who I amI’m originally from Mexico but have lived in the U.S. for over 10 years. I started my career in computer science (I’m a tech geek at heart) but quickly found myself being pulled into procurement and supply chain even before I graduated from university. This was before supply chain was “cool”.I’m an engineer at heart, so I struggle with “consulting speak” and big words that don’t mean anything. I’m not a dreamer or a self-declared futurist or visionary. I’m someone who’s focused on getting things done, getting my hands dirty, and helping others do great work.If I had to use one word to describe myself, it’d be reliable. If I say I’ll do something, consider it done. -- My work experienceI started my career working in strategic procurement for the largest appliance manufacturer in Latin America, where I led the strategy development and execution of how the company bought a diverse range of materials such as glass, plastic parts, gas components, and others. During this time, I led negotiations with hundreds of suppliers worldwide and learned about the importance of building strong relationships with our suppliers and internal customers. In my current role at Gartner, I had the opportunity to move from being an industry practitioner in supply chain to helping others improve how their business operates. Some call it consulting, but I rather call it advisory or coaching. Imagine having the opportunity to speak with senior supply chain leaders across different industries, learning what their challenges are, and giving them the tools and insights they need to overcome these challenges. Pretty cool no? The main topics I help companies with are supplier collaboration, innovation, and sustainable procurement. -- Going forwardI like to stick around. I’m not the kind of person who likes to hop from job to job every 2 years, so you can call me old-fashioned in that way. Once I find a job that is fulfilling, challenges me, and offers me the opportunity to constantly learn, I’m hooked. Once I stop learning, it’s time to move on.I love what I do but I’m always open to exploring other opportunities.
