I was able to gain experience in consulting engineering while I interned with Roux Associates in Oak Brook, IL. While working there I performed a variety of office and field duties. I updated Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans, contacted municipalities about permit applications, and organized and analyzed field data. Outside of the office I assisted with soil and groundwater sampling and accompanied other engineers to client facilities for stormwater inspections. I was also given the opportunity to travel to southern Illinois for a week to assist with construction oversight a chemical waste lagoon remediation project. Being part of such a large-scale, multi-disciplinary project showed me the necessity of clear communication and attention to detail. My internship experience, altogether, showed me the importance of the client-consultant relationship when it comes to enforcing environmental regulations.
