As Technical Project Manager I have pre-sales responsibilities providing ROM and FFP technical and commercial documents. I pre-design the 3D configuration of projectors and screens, calculating and documenting the technical parameters of the visual display system.When orders are placed I tweek the design and budget to be in line with final client requirements.I guide the R&D departement in such way that the developped solution is fully in line with the wishes of the client. I prepare the on-site acceptation criteria and tests for the install and service engineers as check list to be signed of by client, closing the project.

I am breaking down the product requirements for my NPD/NPI projects (New Product Development / New Product Introduction). I review and install the abstracted requirements for firmware, hardware, mechanical and production development teams. I am responsible for aligning the planning lines of all disciplines up to the delivery to the client: sourcing, design and development, production test tooling, quality verifications, production capacity, trial run (PPAP) and deliveries.The products under my care are dataconcentrators and a first of a kind interface module that is enabling electricity meters to connect to an third party RF network.Teams are located from China & India over Roumania & Poland to France & Belgium.

I am initially assisting this new project preparation and process setup.I soon continue this project as Product Owner focussing on the firmware development and hardware validation for a French energy customer. We are creating a data concentrator device that reads, stores and forwards electricity meter data using PLC (Power Line Communication), ethernet and GPRS.The robust HW and FW requirements demand a brand new iteration based on existing product principles. The design requires adding important FW and HW security features as secure boot, a secure HW element and use of an HSM (Hardware Security Module). HW is complicated by rigorous accelerated lifetime tests (ALT) as well as isolation precautions.An ARM processor running Uboot and Java on Linux forms the heart of this device.Component sourcing and production (PCBA, full product assembly and installation) is setup locally in close cooperation with French partners.

I have project responsibility over the defined non-functional requirements (NFRs) as well as production and service related features. I communicate with and report towards project management.On time delivery and quality is realized by involvement in and steering of all phases of the project: from requirements management till system validation, from design to problem solving phase.The NFRs defined are security, start-up performance, budgeting and monitoring of critical resources (NAND flash, memory, CPU load, ...)Production and service features are e.g. on board SW upgrade, low level production board test tooling, production protocols, diagnostic information, ...

Leading a team of about 10 young embedded FW engineers. Focus is on the operating system (Linux), boot behaviour (using Uboot), low level functionality (NAND flash, I2C, SPI, ...), integration of open source packages, security (chain of trust) and upgradability of our LCD TV.Daily multi-site alignment and multi-team priority setting over vast test feedback is key to reach the required quality levels in the set time frame.

I get the responsibility over the low level network component taking care of LAN and WiFi (Atheros) interface abstractions towards higher FW layers. I set up the WiFi Alliance Certification framework for 802.11abg. I redesign for robustness and solve problems.In this period I also write a lightweight UART P2P protocol on a PIC for production compatibility of our one-cable-monitor TV product.I’m training production engineers in the security aspects of our TV (chain of trust boot procedure, flash and FW image encryption) to have also this part of the organisation lined up with the importance of security and storage of secret key material in NANDflash (e.g. keys for HDMI, CI+, service server access, NetFlix, …)

I am responsible for the alignment of and communication between several teams spread over mulitple sites: HW and FW development as well as production support ; based in Bruges and Bangalore. This alignment spans over the full life cycle of our FW product.Our team deliverable consists of a dedicated FW feature that provides the production engineers with a security shielded access layer towards low level registers and many internal FW functions.

The team is providing production supporting FW. Next to requirements, planning and tracking I also provided architectural support and trainings for a varying team of 4 to 2 persons.I get responsibility over several small teams :- subsystem FW testing (providing a testframe to ensure quality and continuity on external interfaces delivery) 3-7 persons- CEinfrastructure (providing an operating system abstraction) 3-5 persons

The production FW created by my team has to be moved to India. It is my responsibility that all code is fully documented, trained and understood before transferring the ownership. I study and update the board upgrade FW and transfer the related UART P2P protocol (privately defined symmetrical protocol).

I am part of a team responsible for Factory, Dealer and Service FW in C. Implementation, unit testing and product testing are my daily tasks.Later I am also in the lead to setup a new design that fits into an inhouse defined object oriented model, using plain C (Koala). A new team is formed to expand and integrate this design in the whole TV SW stack.
