Project Leader Npi/NpdElster Energyict Apr 2013 - 2015KortrijkI am initially assisting this new project preparation and process setup.I soon continue this project as Product Owner focussing on the firmware development and hardware validation for a French energy customer. We are creating a data concentrator device that reads, stores and forwards electricity meter data using PLC (Power Line Communication), ethernet and GPRS.The robust HW and FW requirements demand a brand new iteration based on existing product principles. The design requires adding important FW and HW security features as secure boot, a secure HW element and use of an HSM (Hardware Security Module). HW is complicated by rigorous accelerated lifetime tests (ALT) as well as isolation precautions.An ARM processor running Uboot and Java on Linux forms the heart of this device.Component sourcing and production (PCBA, full product assembly and installation) is setup locally in close cooperation with French partners. -

I set up the WiFi Alliance Certification framework for 802.11abg. I redesign for robustness and solve problems.In this period I also write a lightweight UART P2P protocol on a PIC for production compatibility of our one-cable-monitor TV product.I’m training production engineers in the security aspects of our TV (chain of trust boot procedure, flash and FW image encryption) to have also this part of the organisation lined up with the importance of security and storage of secret key material in NANDflash (e.g. keys for HDMI, CI+, service server access, NetFlix, …) -
