I feel like accountants always get a bad rap because all anyone ever thinks of is taxes. While that may be true, it is much more than that. We handle reconciliations, processing deals and transactions, journal entries, and weekly/monthly financial reports - all of which contributes to the overall success of an organization.When working in finance, it helps to have a quick brain, and I absolutely excel at learning and adapting to new challenges. I was even given the nickname “Memory Mike” for the way I could remember and learn faster than the norm. I have been able to evaluate and enhance accounting processes, monitor intercompany transactions, assist in the consolidation and preparation of the monthly consolidated reports, and supervise and support newer employees. I increase cross-department efficiency by collaborating with Managing Directors from multiple regions.One of the skills I excel at is training new temps and I do this by having patience. I encourage new employees to take notes and even record training sessions. I help them feel welcome, since most people are nervous when starting new jobs and too afraid to ask questions. I implement tactical leadership and communications skills to support team member growth, drive stakeholder interaction, and support the overall goals of the team. I am able to present financial information to provide insight on how to improve internal controls within the business. My main goal is always to continue growing and improving alongside the company I am a part of. Since I was a child, one core memory I had was the strong bond I grew with my dad and brothers by watching sports, especially soccer. I would either watch or play most weekends. The excitement of being able to work in the sporting industry fuels my drive. Adjacent to sports is the media industry, due to my ability to always analyze movies and shows to understand the plots and figure out the potential incoming plot twists. I see media as an art and so greatly want to be a part of its history, and continue giving the world this visual art. If I could combine the two industries as a career, it would be my inner child’s dream come true.
