The Education Committee monitors the policy, administration and spending of the Department for Education and its associated arms length bodies, including Ofsted.The Committee consists of eleven backbench Members of Parliament. The Committee's Chair is Rt Hon. Robert Halfon MP, Conservative Member of Parliament for Harlow.The Committee is an investigative Committee rather than a legislative Committee: it sets its own programme and chooses subjects for inquiries. For each inquiry, a press notice is issued listing the terms of reference and inviting interested parties to send written submissions.

As Second Clerk, I provided procedural advice to Committee Members and draft policy briefings to assist the Committee with its scrutiny role.

As a senior clerk in the Public Bill Office, I advised MPs on the passage of legislation through the House of Commons. This includes managing individual Bills as they pass through the Commons and drafting amendments to those Bills on behalf of MPs.

The Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the administration, expenditure and policy of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and its associated public bodies. It is chaired by Iain Wright MP.

The House of Commons Library provides impartial information and research services for Members of Parliament and their staff in support of their parliamentary duties. One of the main products of the Library is the research briefings which are published to the parliamentary website. These briefing papers offer an independent summary of facts on subjects of interest, particularly legislation proceeding through Parliament. As a research analyst in the Parliament and Constitution Centre of the Commons Library, I was responsible for providing oral and written briefs to MPs, often to tight deadlines, on all matters connected with the UK's Constitution, the UK's Government and Local Government Taxation.
