Mar 2005 - Jan 2008

Staff Engineer

Advanced Energy Industries, Inc

Member of a design team of Electrical Engineers and Mechanical Engineers tasked with developing unique methods of cooling for RF and DC power supplies. Challenged to design effective air and water-cooled solutions for lowest possible cost and within tight space constraints. Worked with Electrical Engineers to drive early involvement in the design process to influence component choice.Introduced onsite airflow testing by constructing a small wind tunnel. This reduced the time to characterize a unit by 79% and eliminated shipping costs to the test facility.Reduced component failures by designing and introducing an innovative water-cooled cold plate. This cold plate decreased critical component temperatures 7C and reduced pressure loss 40%. New design had comparable cost to old design, fit in the same space and did not affect component placement.Led the implementation of SDRC simulation suite into Mechanical Engineering group to improve efficiency by allowing more design iterations in less time and with less expense.Served as Subject Matter Expert on SDRC FEA products. Initiated comprehensive finite element heat transfer and fluid flow training (ESC & TMG, SDRC's thermal and flow FEA products) for all mechanical engineers.

Jan 2000 - Jan 2005

Staff Engineer

Fmc, Direct Measurement Corp
