Since leaving UEA in 1980, joined graduate training scheme of Sedgwick Group, a UK based, International insurance broking business. Subsequently joined the boards of Sedgwick UK and Sedgwick Europe, until acquisition by Marsh/MMC in 1998. Lived in the USA between 1992 and 1997 and set up Sedgwick Global in the US, working with global corporates such as GE, Pfizer, Bacardi, Dow Chemical, Dow Corning, Hanson Industries, ICI and Astra Zeneca. During this period, worked on solving complex insurance and risk management issues and losses including those related to asbestos, silicone breast implant litigation and environmental liabilities. Negotiated global insurance and risk management programmes, and settled significant losses, with US, UK and international insurance and reinsurance companies. Also organised the set up and reinsurance of in-house captive insurance companies for some of the companies listed.Joined the Board of Marsh UK and became CEO in April 2000. Joined Marsh Europe Board and Member of Marsh Inc Board in 2002. Resigned in March 2003. Joined JLT Risk Solutions as CEO, in 2004, and joined board and group executive committee of Jardine Lloyd Thompson plc. Resigned in November 2005.Worked with Lockton inc. and Stonepoint Capital to acquire the insurance broking business of Alexander Forbes International in 2006 and established Lockton International in November, the same year. Acted as CEO and Chairman of Lockton from 2006 to 2017. Retired from the Board in December 2017.Between 2017-2022 - Member of the Advisory and Enterprise Fund Board at University of East Anglia. Received an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law from UEA in July 2017. Chairman of The London Insurance Market Charitable Trust, formed after the events of 9/11 to remember our friends who lost their lives and to provide scholarships for young people studying to enter the global Insurance Industry.Most recently (2020) have been consulting with major PE firm on potential Insurance industry investments.Appointed as Independent Board Director of Willis Towers Watson (WTW) in January 2022.
