Supervising 3 subject specialist teams of lawyers responsible for devising and delivering the assessments in Criminal Litigation, Civil Litigation, and Professional Ethics that all barristers seeking qualification to practice at the Bar of England and Wales must pass – currently around 2,200 candidates world-wide every year. The role involves chairing all key team and examinations meetings, drafting the detailed Chair’s reports on the conduct of each diet of assessments (available from the Bar Standards Board website), appointing subject team examiners, and liaising with key stakeholders such as HEI’s offering the Bar Training Course, the Inns of Court, the Bar Council and other regulators.
