I served as web developer on a wide array of web development projects, the most significant of which was the creation of arbo.org for the Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry. Arbo.org also encompases a much larger system which is a continuing education tracking system called OE (Optometric Education) Tracker.ARBO needed a nation-wide solution to track licensing continuing education for Optometrists licensed by the various state license boards across the country. When development started in 2002, the database Arbo had was in a shambles. There were 35,000 records, but it was riddled with outdated, inaccurate information and was a combination of many state databases. The product delivered was a system that allowed the 35,000+ Optometrists nationwide to log into the system, identify themselves via social security number and state licensing numbers, and update their records themselves. All 35,000 received ARBO cards that they can present at santioned continuing education events anywhere in Northern Hemisphere including the Carribean and Mexico. The cards have barcodes and magnetic stripes that are read by handheld scanners. The scanners are rented by the education provider and Fed-Exed back to ARBO in Charlotte, NC. ARBO downloads the attendance data directly to thee website I designed and their Continuing education compliance can be reported back to their state boards in case they wish to audit their optometrists' attendance.ARBO hired a full time developer, Tony Cole, who assisted me in developing the site. Tony has since left ARBO.Mikrotec is where I matured as a web application developer, which has since led me to much richer new media products and experiences for end users.
