Developing software for the Qx line of products at Phabrix using C++ and Qt.As part of the Phabrix R&D team I developed software for the Qx/QxL line of products in C++ and using the Qt framework. A major feature I worked on was expanding support of the AMWA NMOS standard to include sender functionality to better utilise the QxL IP Transmit features.While working at Phabrix I also helped with DevOps tasks, maintaining internal servers and development tools.

I worked in Thales UK’s Research, Technology and Innovation division, which works with UK business units to develop the next generation of products. Areas I have worked on include network security, Homomorphic encryption and augmented reality development on the Microsoft Hololens.As part of the research team I have also been seconded to other parts of Thales to assist on project or provide expertise as required. I have worked on data analysis with our ground transport division, using the Azure platform to analyse customer data and predict faults. I have also worked with our training and simulation division on a military simulator.The variety of the work utilizes a large part of my skillset, with a heavy focus on software development for proving algorithms and ideas. Much of my work also had a strong focus on cryptography and cyber security.

I worked part time as a contractor for Think Engineer, taking on small short term projects as needed. The work I do often involves a mix of hardware design, embedded and application programming. Much of the development is done using of the shelf hardware, rapid prototyping and open source software where possible for a fast turn around.

I worked as part of a small R&D team providing bespoke engineering solutions to our customer. We work with them to analyse capability gaps, develop solutions and refine them into products by working closely with them throughout the engineering life cycle.The work I did as part of the team covers a wide range of skills, including: electronic circuit design, embedded and application software development and 3d CAD design & rapid prototyping.

During my second year on the Thales graduate scheme I took a secondment opportunity with Maritime Mission Systems to gain a broader understanding of the business side of engineering. During this time I worked at multiple locations across the UK.In this role I reported directly to the Technical Director, my responsibilities included: organising monthly product line reviews, reporting bid & product updates to group (global) level and tracking spend/progress of SFR&D tasks.

I joined the Thales Graduate scheme in October 2013 in their R&D department. As part of the 2 year graduate scheme I took part in 6 month rotations between different projects and areas of the business.The projects I worked on began as low TRL concepts which I helped developed as part of small teams (2-6 people), to better demonstrate their potential to stakeholders.I also used the flexibility of the graduate scheme to take part in STEM evens such as careers fairs and running a work experience program for school students.

I did a one year industrial project with CRESS while studying for my degree, designing a bespoke condition monitoring system for a high speed flywheel energy storage system designed to be used on mobile dock cranes.After finishing my degree and before starting my graduate job, I continued working for CRESS, refining the condition monitoring system. During this time I also created testing plans and designed a suitable electrical safety system and test area.

I started tutoring with Maths Doctor in September 2010, teaching Maths and Science.Maths - KS2 to A level (with some specialist higher level topics)Physics - GCSE to A levelScience - KS3 to GCSEIn October 2012 I was promoted to head tutor under a new initiative to streamline the joining & assessment for new students, as well as providing help to new tutors.
