Michael Satz earned his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science from Southern Methodist University in 1990 while enlisted in the United States Navy. He was also an active leader in the SMU Black Student Alliance. After earning his degrees, Satz served as a United States Navy Surface Warfare Officer stationed on amphibious assault ships based out of Japan. Upon discharge, Satz earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School. He practiced bankruptcy, business, and general litigation in Dallas Texas before becoming in house counsel for Nissan North America where he practiced financial compliance, consumer finance, and arbitration law. He joined the University of Idaho College of Law as an associate professor in 2006, earned tenure in 2010, became that college’s associate dean for faculty in 2012, and interim dean in 2013. During this time he oversaw curricular and facilities expansion related to the expansion of that college’s law program in Boise. In 2014, he became the University of Idaho Associate Vice President and Executive Officer for Southwestern Idaho. Mike is currently licensed to practice law through the State Bar of Texas and his areas of academic and professional expertise include Compliance, Culture, Climate, and Diversity specifically advocating for the underrepresented and disenfranchised and large organizational climate and culture, litigation, commercial and business law, leadership and mentoring.
