Associate Provost For Academic Affairs
CurrentDr. Sheldon was appointed Associate Provost for Academic Affairs in April 2018 following his service as Interim Provost from July 2017 to mid-April 2018 while a national search was underway for the Provost position. As Associate Provost, Dr. Sheldon oversees the operations of the Registrar, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Center for Excellence in Collaborative Education, Interprofessional Simulation and Innovation Center, Center for Excellence in Digital Health, Office of Assessment, the Office of Innovation, and the P.D. Merrill Makerspace. He serves as the Provost’s Office liaison to the University Faculty Affairs Committee of the Faculty Assembly. He also serves as the University’s Accreditation Liaison Officer for the New England Commission of Higher Education. Dr. Sheldon joined the faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of New England in 1990. Prior to joining the faculty, he was a staff physical therapist (General Surgery, Neurology, Orthopedics, & Inpatient Rehabilitation Rotations), and then senior physical therapist (Neurology and Neurosurgery) in the Physical Therapy Department, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1997 and was appointed Program Director in 2001 and held this position until his appointment as Associate Provost in 2017. He has overseen the education programs’ continued accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) through the transition from a baccalaureate degree to master of physical therapy degree to the doctor of physical therapy degree program. He served two terms on the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy from 2015-2021, including one term as vice president.
