I spent two summers working in the USA at a prestigious summer camp for girls, as a general counsellor, a high ropes and rock climbing instructor, and a outdoor living skills teacher.Tripp Lake Camp is one of the oldest, and widely considered one of the best and most respected girls' summer camps in the entire country. As such I was expected to work at a very high standard in my particular specialist field at all times.I had regularly to develop and implement key skills such like communication, team work, leadership and organisation, as I was not only responsible for running lessons both independently and as a department, but also for the general well being and supervision of the children, both in camp at lessons and during mealtimes, and out of camp on trips and hikes.At camp, one of my key responsibilities was heading up the outdoor living skills programme, in which we taught children ranging from 7-17 years old about fundamental knowledge necessary to safely navigate and interact with the natural world. These skills included, for example, fire building, tent pitching, shelter building, orienteering, leave no trace, cooking etc.
