BiographyMike’s professional background includes 20 years as a practitioner and manager in the Community Probation Service in Auckland and fourteen months in the West Midlands Probation and Parole Service in England. Before taking up his current position at the University of Auckland, Mike worked for 12 months as a social services kaiako (lecturer) at Te Wananga o Aotearoa. His experience as a service manager in Community Probation took place during and after major organisational restructuring and has informed his teaching and research.Research | CurrentMike's primary area of research relates to social work leadership. His doctoral thesis developed a New Zealand model of social work organisational leadership and is associated with a current project to develop leadership and management standards for the profession in New Zealand. In addition to conference presentations, Mike has published six articles or book chapters drawing on this research and has also presented webinars on his research. Workplace wellbeing represents a research stream which draws on Mike's doctoral work.A second research stream investigates online continuing professional development and virtual communities of practice. Two articles have been published and a number of conference presentations reporting findings .
