Dr Mike Anderson is a renowned world expert in wind resource assessment. In 1982 he co-founded RES, the world’s largest independent renewable energy company, and as Chief Technical Officer went on to build arguably the most accomplished and talented technical team in the world. As a wind energy pioneer, he has dedicated his career to the growth of renewables from the margins to the mainstream and helped lead RES from a team of two into the multi-billion company that it is today. During his time at RES, he oversaw the layouts and energy yield assessments for more than 15 GW wind energy capacity around the globe. Instrumental in the development of techniques for assessing the performance of onshore and offshore operational assets and the RES SMART software system used to manage over 3GW of assets worldwide. Mike holds a physics degree from Nottingham University and a Ph.D. from Cambridge University for his pioneering work on the theory and practice of wind turbine design. Following his retirement from RES in 2017, Mike now works as an independent consultant supporting a range of clients in the wind industry and is a business mentor for renewable start-ups.
