Magistrate
CurrentConducts neutral and impartial hearings, and makes authoritative decisions, regarding search warrants, arrests, emergency protective orders, emergency mental health custody orders, temporary mental health detentions, and bail determinations such as Recognizance, Unsecured/Secured Bonds and No Bond; Coordinates and consults regularly with mental health professionals;Receives and accounts for bond money paid by sureties; Interact with bondsmen in coordinating bond releases;Performs extensive legal research and analysis;Acquires and applies facts obtained, by conducting personal interviews and utilizing NCIC and VCIN, to relevant legal principles;Instructs law enforcement officers on current legal policies and procedures;Maintains order and decorum in highly charged, sensitive circumstances;Coordinates efforts with law enforcement and the courts;Communicates routinely, both orally and in writing, with law enforcement officers, citizens and in some situations, judges, attorneys and, court clerks.
