New Leaders Council (NLC) Wisconsin recruits, trains and promotes the next generation of progressive political entrepreneurs. NLC recruits emerging leaders, engages them on both the local and national levels, and equips them to be civic leaders – not only for elective office, but also in our community and their careers. NLC accomplishes this mission primarily through the NLC Institute; the nation’s premiere political entrepreneurship training program. NLC Fellows engage in ten intensive days of training over a five-month period to learn cutting-edge entrepreneurship, leadership, and political management skills from industry-leading experts. NLC-Madison was awarded the "2015 Institute of the Year" award as the best institute program among nearly forty across the country, and "2017 Chapter of the Year."

Community Advocates established the Public Policy Institute in 2008 to work toward preventing and reducing poverty while improving the quality of life for individuals and families. The Public Policy Institute targets poverty in a number of ways – we try to reduce it through changes to relevant public policies and laws; we try to prevent its effects through public health efforts; and we work to increase opportunity and wellness for low-income people by fostering factors related to success, resilience and well-being.
