I have 35 years experience working with computer hardware and software. I got my first job in high school laying out circuit boards on a light table and doing embedded programming for factory testing machines and high-end audio equipment. After getting my Honours BSc in Computer Science, I worked on embedded software for electrical testing equipment. I then worked at IBM, porting AIX 2.x from RT workstation to PS/2 machines. I then switched to OS/2 and worked on a system management application. After I got my MSC in Computer Science, I dove deeply into OS/2 and worked on a project to make OS/2 applications work across a network to Unix systems. I then provided the first technical support for OS/2 developers. I moved to Australia and worked as a consultant to ANZ Bank to build a call center application in C++. I learned Java at the launch, returned to the US and joined IBM in a WebSphere/Java consulting team for 5 years. I went to Germany for a year to work at a customer to build a replacement for an OS/2 bank teller system, then went to Edinburgh for a year to consult with Bank of Scotland on call centers, web banking and other architectural issues. On my return to the US, I switched to the Linux Integration Center as the Banking industry lead. After a year I switched to technical leader for the LIC's Americas and Asia Pacific technical pre-sales teams.I wrapped up my career with IBM in the Developer Relations group as a Senior Architect, specializing in the Rational product line of software development tools.My last job was the Commercial Monitoring Systems Engineer at REC Solar. I managed the deployment of solar monitoring systems at our commercial customer sites spanning sales, design, engineering, purchasing, installation, commissioning and service.I took early retirement from corporate landscape and do freelance design between afternoons at the beach.
