It Engineer I
As the first staff information technologist at Tyvak, I was tasked with advising and deployment of IT systems, network infrastructure, and all other things IT related to help get things done. If you can name an IT related task, I probably did it during my time at Tyvak. One of my first task was to open a new branch office within the first month of my arrival as the main office was over capacity. I worked with structured cabling team, brokered deals to purchase internet, network gear, battery backup and servers with multiple vendors and had everything deployed. Within the first month, we were fully operational with secured WiFi and site-to-site VPN connectivity. As the company started reaching 70 employees at our Irvine offices, we were starting to become over capacity again at both buildings and needed to move again to a much larger multi-level facility with many different issues to solve such as secured zones and special labs. With a project of this size, I was unable to do it alone. I worked with multiple different vendors for ISP, POTS, structured cabling, electrical work, power backup, HVAC, copiers and to configure our new network infrastructure with multiple VLANs – all in parallel. On a Thursday night, after everyone shut down their computers, we vacated one of our old office and I had everyone with internet and inter-office (site to site VPN) connectivity. After spending Friday morning making sure everyone was happy and getting them connected to their printers, we were fully migrated without hiccups. All this happened while I was supporting remote users, building and setting up computers, performing new hire orientation / termination processing, and all the other help desk activities I was responsible for daily. This does not include the other projects I took on, for example, migrating everyone to Active Directory infrastructure. Every day had its challenges and opportunity to flex a different part of my IT brain.
Technical Support Engineer
The first few weeks comprised of sharpening my brain on SSO, two factor authentication, x.509 LDAP certificates and learning how SecureAuth's IdM software helped companies solve different integration scenarios. After that, the primary focus of the job was to help customers with various issues from simple configuration issues to assisting them identify what is missing that is making things 'not work'. Should it be an advanced configuration requiring custom code rework, I would work with sales advisors and professional service team until the customer is satisifed. However, we would always do our best to ensure everything is exhausted before it reaches this level. On a typical case, I would be able to resolve the issue using our knowledge base and double checking if the customer has all the configuration paramters set corretly. If the issue persist, the tech support team would work colaboratively and we would re-write the knowledge base with the correct solutions once we resolved the issue. For a few of my cases, it escallated all the way to the development team if it came to a question of design or why doesn't it work with their specific use case. There were many times were we would spend nights and weekends to solve customer issues.
Systems Administrator / Release Engineer
I decided to take on a more dev-ops centric role in the company by dedicating half of my time to the release management department as well as continuing my duties as the lead systems administrator. As a release engineer, I was responsible to work with large teams of developers, database administrators and key stakeholders to schedule, implement and deploy software patches. Upon build complications, I would work with the appropriate developer and the release manager to formulate appropriate solutions to make it work.As the systems administrator, I started taking more of a compliance role as well as my other previous duties. I was required to acquire systems evidence for government mandated audits such as FISMA. Also upon completion of annual penetration tests, I was to remediate any issues utilizing tools such as Nexpose and Metasploit on external systems.
Systems Administrator
My focus shifted to the off site data center. I was the primary person to be responsible to monitor and respond to issues with M1000e blade center, EqualLogic, 3PAR SAN and Brocade switches. One of my major projects included configuration and implementation of AirWatch MDM solution for company owned devices and to support BOYD.
Implementations Specialist
The primary role I had was to evaluate current business processes and see what can be done to improve inefficiencies. I've worked directly with department managers such as legal, insurance, repossessions, customer service and collections to streamline their work on Atlassian JIRA. All departments saw a spike in efficiency as their department ran paperless and most importantly, have accountability on who did what. With these successes, the company proceeded to hire dedicated business analysts and project managers to continue this process improvement campaign. Now that we have a team in place, I took on a support role for the team, building the system infrastructure that they required. I continued to sharpen my skills with Atlassian's JIRA and Confluence software, evaluating and deploying different add-on's that would further impact the company. During the second quarter, Veros Credit wanted to be a lot more agile and automated instead of manually dialing all of our customers. I joined a team responsible for deploying a large scale SIP system to be used by Shoretel and Aspect. In the third quarter, Veros Credit realized they are running out of space and are running a huge risk by running everything on our current infrastructure at the Santa Ana office. Currently, I am on the team responsible for building the new data center to ensure a 0% downtime for our employees and customers.
Junior Systems Administrator
My primary job role is to take on projects that improve infrastructure at the Santa Ana office and Irvine datacenter. Please see attached projects for more information. As a 2nd tier desktop support, I advised for 2 other desktop support personnel. I teach them how to obtain solutions and encourage them to take on additional projects to improve the company. Along with the desktop support technicians, I travel to remote branches to ensure that all employee needs are taken care of and appropriate growth measures are in place.I was also the liaison between Veros and its ISP carriers, mobile phone carriers, and copier systems. I was responsible for provisioning, inventorying and monitoring over 100 phone lines for Veros and their mobile phone carrier.
It Desktop Support
I am responsible for maintaining daily operations of over 200 Windows XP, Windows 7 and Linux environment workstations. Also, I have configured and deployed various Dell and Cisco branded networking equipment to support corporate and branch office expansions.Upon emplopyee employment and termination, I follow a strict SOP guideline to create / modify their accounts in Active Directory, Exchange, Fax Services and other financial service programs. With the data size of Veros growing into the terabytes, I am also tasked with monitoring and maintaining critical information that was backed up on a daily basis. Also am responsible for working with Iron Mountain to ensure off site data rotation in a secure manner.
It Assistant
Managing a small-growing into a medium scale network infrastructure consisting of Windows 2003 SBS, 2008, XP and 7 boxes. During this time, there were very limited options in obtaining bioinformatics services which the company had the know how, but did not have enough computing power to provide this service. I deployed an ESXi 4.1 cluster for them so they can maximize their potential of their HP servers. This is where I truly grew my vendor relationship skills as I had to work with many of them to fit our budget.
It Contractor
Support satellite offices and customers' homes as they have difficulties connecting to the business. Managed Cisco phones, Windows XP & 7 desktops. As new remote offices and warehouses were being stood up, I would consult on all ISP, structured cabling and other PC needs.
Website Technical Support
First taste at being primary systems administrator contact where I was responsible for a small business environment. Managed Windows 2003 / 2008 SBS and Exchange 2007 boxes in a Winows XP / Vista environment. Primary duty was to provide help desk support to customers experiencing e-mail difficulties. I've developed automated scripts that scans all of our websites, obtain the latest weblogs and uploaded to our analytics system for the SEO department.
Technical Support
First true experience in network administration at a 100+ employee call center. Provided help desk support to internal staff using Windows 98 and XP on a VMWare environment. Managed Plantronics headsets and telephone equipment. Frequently resolved support issues between AT&T and the company.
Computer Accessory Sales
Primary job duty was to stock inventory and help customers find the best product that suits their needs. On occasion, also stood in for computer furniture and desktop sales when translation services were necessary.
Executive Administrative Assistant
Working for the graduate studies department, I was responsible for answering graduate student inquiries about the graduation process and help them submit their dissertations. Also created and processed marketing material for Cal Poly Pomona Graduate Studies advisor for distribution at graduate fairs.
Data Entry Clerk
File and organized confidential medical paperwork. Also entered data into a proprietary AS400 database to bring the company into a paperless environment.
Assistant Manager, Formerly Line Cook And Cashier
First task every morning was to prepare all food and cooking utensils to OSHA standards by measuring temperature on every food product. I took customers orders on a POS system, cooked the food to their specifications and stocked store inventory. When new personnel came, I would be part of the training team to teach the new individual. During closing shift, I was to close out the cash register and made sure staff store food appropriately and clean the store top to bottom.
Ocr Data Entry
Scan 20-30 pages at a time, making sure the school's database is picking up the data accurately. Upon accuracy check is verified, uploaded the data to the university's Oracle database.
