For over 15 years I ran a Mountain Bike Holiday company with wife and business partner Amanda offering short and long stay holidays with guiding and instruction from our luxury bikers B&B in Pickering North Yorkshire.In addition I was a freelance CTC tutor for Leader and Maintenance qualifications, As a Technical Leader, Skills Instructor and Cycle Maintenance tutor (also trained to Cytech level 3) offering a number of courses either as part of a stay with us or day courses.Courses included: Skills instruction at all levels from beginner to XC / Enduro racers.Guided rides to suit ability in Dalby Forest and on The North York MoorsCycle maintenance courses at all levels for road and MTBI was a founder of Big Bear Bikes in Pickering. Creating the brand as an extension of Big Bear Active (which became Gone Mountain Biking) and Big Bear Alpine family businesses. As a new start up I secured premises and key brand accounts including Trek. With investment secured through a business partner grew the business to a year two turnover of £350k before leaving to concentrate on existing and new business interests.Since stopping the holiday and training side of the businesses I have proved cycle tourism consultancy on a paid for and voluntary basis to help organisations develop cycle trails and cycle tourism strategies. I have worked with Visit England, Welcome to Yorkshire as well as local authorities and a large number of small local businesses.

As chairman of Newbridge Park Ltd I have been instrumental in building a strong and effective volunteer team to formally develop a disused quarry and adjoining neglected woodland on Newbridge Road in Pickering, North Yorkshire so that the local community can enjoying cycling, walking and other outdoor activities. Over a period of over 12 years the role involved:- managing and developing a multi skilled volunteer team- identifying and securing a number of funding streams - developing a local business sponsorship model- introducing an online user payment model- running community volunteer and fund raising events- introducing a program of regular trail inspection and repairs- partnering with other local organisations such as schools, cub/scout groups. orienteers, cycling clubs and mountain rescue to encourage wide and varied use of the site The facilities were developed to encourage a wider range of activities and a long term woodland management plan to reintroduce native species and increase biodiversity in a natural habitat .Facilities delivered included a cycling skills area designed to allow progression for beginners and advanced cyclists alike. In addition to the skills park we have developed a cross country trails loop and through consultation with local walking groups have improved footpaths and accessibility, installed seating and ensured that the woods were a place for residents and visitors to enjoy.The mission of Newbridge Park Ltd is: to deliver and encourage sustainable outdoor activity facilities in natural surroundings for the local community. The 100% not for profit volunteer group raises money through passes and yearly memberships to cover insurance and lease costs with the Duchy of Lancaster. Working for CTC the focus of the new role is to set up the first CTC National Centre of Excellence in close partnership with Pace Cycles and The Forestry Commission through Dalby Bike Barn and so helping to increase the number of cycling (both Mountain Biking and Road) visitors to Dalby Forest through delivery of the full suite of CTC rider skills training and education courses.I will be developing all local processes and policies for booking and delivering training courses on site. Through effective online and traditional Marketing and using existing relationships I will be working closely with local groups and organisations to promote integration with the local community including other cycling groups, schools, colleges and businesses.
