About Michael Hawtin

I'm a graduate product development and product marketing professional who, after a successful 15 year career in technology and telecoms took the decision to follow a lifelong passion and move into the cycling industry. Since 2007 I have created two successful businesses, held a regional cycling development position for a national cycling charity working with regional and national tourism bodies and more recently continued that work setting up a cycling friendly business network for the North York Moors National Park. I'm also a founder member of Newbridge Park Group in Pickering, a local volunteer group dedicated to giving something back to the cycling community.Gone Mountain Biking (formerly Big Bear Active) was established in 2007. The business offered a unique package of accommodation, guiding, skills instruction and cycle maintenence courses based from four star silver biker friendly bed and breakfast near Dalby Forest and the North York Moors. In 2008, I started Big Bear Bikes in a prime retail location with a number of key brands (including Trek). With partner funding the business grew quickly and gained a reputation for delivering quality products and services. I returned to focus on cycle tourism and education in 2010 and became chair of Newbridge Park Ltd, a volunteer group providing outdoor activity facilities and cycle trails to the community.I apply my business experience and passion for the outdoors to all projects I’m involved in to ensure that needs are identified, plans are developed and results achieved.Key Skills and Experience- Business start up and management- Product marketing and brand development- Excellent communicator at all levels- Project planning and management skills.- Tourism and retail expertise in the cycle and outdoor industries.- An experienced outdoor activity instructor.- Cycling UK Leader and Maintenance Tutor, Technical Leader, Skills Instructor- Cytech Cycle Mechanic- Volunteer ManagerPreviously - Internet and Telecoms, Strategic Product Roadmap Development, Product Marketing and Development, In-life product management with blue chip / international organisations.
