World Pro Skiing was created by Bob Beattie in 1970, providing opportunities for ski racers to compete for prize money in an era dominated by the "amateur" World Cup circuit. "The Pro Format," is head-to-head ski racing, the side by side format that provides the most entertaining form of alpine competition. Beattie's World Wide Ski Corporation, owner of the WPS Tour and NASTAR, ceased to organize the pro tour after the 1981 season. Today, the Bob Beattie Ski Foundation advocates for The Pro Format to be the primary way in which alpine competitions are conducted.
