Originally involved with the licensing of coal mining operations and from April 2004, the overall management and co-ordination of reported coal mining related surface hazards in various geographical regions within the coalfields of the UK.

Previously worked as an environmental monitoring technician and engineering technician before training as a landfill manager and completing various certificates of technical competence. From January 1994, responsible for the overall management of two controlled waste landfill sites and associated household waste and construction waste recycling facilities.

Originally commenced work as a mining trainee before commencing an apprenticeship as a mine surveyor in June 1986. Studied block release and qualified as mine surveyor in 1991. Work activities included completing surveys and setting out to control the direction and level of underground coal mining operations. Preparation of statutory mine plans.
