I'm naturally curious, and this, combined with my passion for technology and software, has enabled me to successfully adapt to different environments and roles throughout my career.I’m currently working at Riot Games as a Senior Software Engineer. Prior to that, I've held engineering roles at AWS and 42air (a drone automation startup). While studying at the University of Cape Town, I produced two first-author publications:1). A paper focussing on the application of haptic props for enhanced user presence in VR.2). A paper exploring the use of computer vision and non-deep supervised learning techniques for efficient automated detection of malaria parasites.
Listed skills include Java, Python, Programming, Linux, and 11 others.

• Designed and led development on an initiative to overhaul several microservices to support a multi-tenant paradigm.• Identified and drove the implementation of several optimisations to my team's critical endpoints, ultimately leading to a reduction of over 50% in the magnitude of intermittent P99 latency spikes while also dramatically reducing compute expenditure (by over 90% for some endpoints).• Acted as my team's primary security representative and took the lead on many of our engagements with the application security team.• Mentored less tenured members of the team.

• Developed code across the full stack, including several backend microservices and a frontend widget.• Designed an adaptable rule-based mechanism for routing cases to support engineers fluent in the customer's preferred language.• Led my team's response to the Log4Shell zero-day vulnerability by patching multiple services and coordinating risk mitigation efforts.• Mentored colleagues, providing guidance in both code and design reviews.

• Applied computer vision techniques to solve problems in the field of maritime drone delivery, such as detection of ships in drone-mounted camera footage.• Worked with Python and various image processing, machine learning, and visualization frameworks such as OpenCV, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Numpy, and Matplotlib.• Led the team's adoption of Terraform for infrastructure as code.• Designed and developed the backend for a flight data collection system using Python for preprocessing of data to be ingested into Amazon Aurora (MySQL).

• Worked with my mentor to design and implement a solution for automated processing and deployment of updates to configuration used by a public-facing service.• Worked across teams to build an async integration for requesting and handling config translation into additional languages, harnessing AWS Lambda and S3.• Conceptualised a key-value substitution mechanism with a custom syntax to handle non-translatable text, such as URLs.• Utilised CloudWatch logs, metrics and alarms to provide visibility into the system performance and maintain high operational standards.

I worked on a research project which explored the application of haptics for enhanced user presence and performance in Virtual Reality. Specifically, I was responsible for creating a haptic prop to mimick a baseball bat. The prop was designed to be configurable by enabling force feedback and/or adding extra weight. I built the wireless microcontroller-driven force feedback system, and integrated it with the Unity-based virtual environment.I was also responsible for running user experiments to gather data for the resulting research paper, of which I was the first author. It was published at the 12th ACM SIGGRAPH Conference on Motion, Interaction and Games in October 2019, and received a distinguished paper award.

• Collaborated with my mentor and team to design and develop components of an internal configuration service related to support case routing• Developed a full-stack solution using Java on the backend, JavaScript (with React & Redux) on the frontend, and CloudFormation for infrastructure as code• Conducted unit testing using Groovy to ensure the solution was robust and reliable• Leveraged various AWS services, including DynamoDB, Lambda, and API Gateway, to achieve a scalable solution
June to July 2018:I produced an introductory Python module geared towards students with a strong mathematics and finance background but without any programming experience. The module aims to prepare students for exposure to the field of Computational Finance.September 2018 to January 2019:I later worked to develop two modules with the aim of exposing learners to the use of C# and Microsoft Excel, with a focus on financial programming applications. The first module served as an introduction to C# and object-oriented programming. The second module sought to familiarise learners with Microsoft Excel, and explored the combined use of Excel and C# to develop financial programs.
