I’ve enjoyed a 17 year experience in offline IT asset management. In the mid 90's managing offline assets consisted of mainly tape. Now the landscape has changed. Disks have to disposed of properly. Hardware has be returned in a timely manner so one doesn't get billed back. Data that resides on any asset can't end up in the wrong hands. These are challenging times that we face today when it comes to the proper retention levels and workflows for offline assets. I like to think that my experience has given me a deep understanding of the risks and costs my customers face when protecting sensitive data on offline assets, and that I'm able to help solve some of their problems when dealing with the above issues.
