Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)RSVP is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people 55 and over. Service opportunities are as diverse as the communities in which volunteers serve and may include: organizing neighborhood watch programs, tutoring and mentoring disadvantaged or disabled youth, renovating homes, teaching English to immigrants, and assisting victims of natural disasters.Senior CompanionsSenior Companions are volunteers age 55 and over who make a difference by providing assistance and friendship to adults who have difficulty with daily living tasks, such as shopping or paying bills. Senior Companions help these adults remain independent in their homes instead of having to move to more costly institutional care. Senior Companions give families or professional caregivers a much needed time off from their duties, run errands, and often provide friendship for their clients.Primary responsibilities as Acting Director of Senior Corps:-- Serve as external agency representative on matters of aging and engaging seniors in service;-- Administer a grant portfolio totaling almost $200 million to local programs across the nation;-- Advise the CEO on issues related to senior volunteering;-- Lead the strategic vision for the Senior Corps program; and-- Oversee development of policy and procedures related to the Senior Corps program.

Recruited by the Chief Executive Officer to direct the agency's forty-five field offices with a staff of 165 people deployed across the country. The Office of Field Liaison oversees the implementation of two of the agency's primary programs: AmeriCorps VISTA and Senior Corps. Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) is the preeminent federal volunteer anti-poverty program. VISTA members serve to build the capacity of organizations and communities to lift people out of poverty. Senior Corps comprises three of the agency's most established volunteer programs: Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Foster Grandparents Program, and the Senior Companion program. Served as the senior Peace Corps official and legal representative in China. Responsibilities included leading and managing the successful implementation of the Peace Corps country program by: fostering positive relationships with host country partners, government officials and U.S. embassy officials; inspiring professionalism, camaraderie, commitment and cultural sensitivity among Volunteers and staff; managing and guiding 32 Peace Corps staff members to facilitate effective Volunteer projects; and establishing systems to support the personal health, safety, and security of Volunteers. Maintained Peace Corps China's position as among the top five high performing posts in the agency's portfolio as determined by an annual internal review.Achieved the expansion of staff from 26 to 32 members to ensure sustainable support for the program and for Volunteers.Oversaw the development of strategies to support Peace Corps' first LGBTQ couple to serve in China. Developed staff training in conjunction with local Chinese experts. Managed communication with Chinese representatives of Peace Corps' global commitment to supporting LGBTQ couples in service. Served on Peace Corps' agency working group on integration of LGBTQ couples into service. Recipient of Peace Corps award for excellence in diversity for contributions to the LGBTQ couples initiative.Served as primary Peace Corps liaison with the US embassy in Beijing and with the US Consulate in Chengdu where Peace Corps offices were located.Developed an agency-approved plan for facilities expansion and engaged in negotiations with the Chinese university housing the Peace Corps offices.Among the top 2% of Country Directors recognized for responsiveness to and understanding of priority Volunteer concerns as evaluated through an annual Volunteer survey.

Served as the senior Peace Corps official and legal representative in Bulgaria. Responsibilities included leading and managing the successful implementation of the Peace Corps country program by: fostering positive relationships with host country partners, government officials and U.S. embassy officials; inspiring professionalism, camaraderie, commitment and cultural sensitivity among Volunteers and staff; managing and guiding 32 Peace Corps staff members to facilitate effective Volunteer projects; and establishing systems to support the personal health, safety, and security of Volunteers. Developed and implemented a two-year plan to successfully phase out the Peace Corps program in Bulgaria. The agency decision to phase out the program was based on economic and development advances achieved by the country and the assessed need to invest Peace Corps resources in higher priority areas of the globe.Produced a documentary tribute to Peace Corps Bulgaria that was aired on national television. Negotiated pro bono week-long programming with television network to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of the program. Established a permanent installation in the US Embassy, Sofia, to commemorate Peace Corps' 22 years of service in Bulgaria. Peace Corps Volunteers designed the installation, and the US Ambassador to Bulgaria dedicated the installation in the spring of 2013. Achieved the highest Volunteer satisfaction rating in post’s recorded history (97%). Volunteer satisfaction was further evidenced by higher than anticipated levels of Volunteer retention, despite the pressures of phasing out the program. Served as a field representative on the 2014 – 2018 Strategic Plan Field Resource Group, contributing the field perspective to the agency’s new strategic plan.

Members live on one of five campuses, located in Denver, Colorado; Sacramento, California; Perry Point, Maryland; Vicksburg, Mississippi; and Vinton, Iowa.The mission of AmeriCorps NCCC is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct team-based national and community service.
