ActiveRain was a top-250 traffic blogging site, and I helped bring it into modern development practices. During this time, I crunched away at Ruby on Rails performance, optimizing some 150 database tables and associated queries, and bringing the service outages down to a dull roar. I also helped the site scale by sharding the data and introducing caching. I also built out an auction system for their in-house ad network.
