About Mike Macgregor

I am interested in data networks very generally, from very low bitrate IoT wireless. networks, all the way up to high bandwidth, high capacity optical transport systems. In the IoT setting, my students have completed novel work in characterizing and modeling the outdoors RF environment. Using those models, we have created new methods for predicting path loss in forests, using satellite remote sensing measurements. In the optical networl arena, I invented “network preconfiguration”, which is the foundation of sub-50 millisecond restoration of modern transport systems. My current interests are in cloud-based methods for acquiring, aggregating and analyzing data from IoT nodes.
