Couple to this a profound love of my country - I am a child of Africa -and for my people, and this may explain my activities which range from education (including the funding) of young aspiring seafarers at high school and at university, (especially those less fortunate,) to assisting them prepare for a life at sea, to helping them to find careers they are best suited to, and beyond. In summary, I guess that it is fair to say that my work starts at preparing young people to become the best navigators (or engineers) they can be, and goes through all the phases through to investigating of accidents of navigation when they do occur. I established a logistics division of Calcon in 1993, and between then and 2016 was responsible for transporting products such as fuels and ethanol across international borders employing in excess of 10 000 road tankers. The inspection and testing division of Calcon was merged with GAZELLE TESTING SERVICES (PTY) LTD in 2003. As a Surveyor I have conducted many various types of surveys over the years - ranging from Pre-Purchase / Club Pre-entry / On and Off Hire condition surveys, Bunker Surveys, Draught Surveys, lashing surveys etc., to pre-shipment cargo inspections. These surveys have been conducted on all types of vessels.I have also over 35 years of experience in preparing oil and chemical tankers for the carriage of many types of specialised cargoes, ranging from fuels to alcohol, and am fully versed with the handling, as well as technical aspects of quantity and quality determination of these products. I have superintended or monitored tanker loading and discharging operations in many ports, from Tamatave to Rosario, Jamnagar to Accra, Rotterdam to Galveston, and others, over the years.I have served Shipowners, Charterers, P&I Clubs, Maritime Attorneys, Oil Companies, and chemical producers as a P&I Surveyor, and have conducted surveys on crude/oil/chemical tankers which have experienced incidents or accidents - contaminations, groundings, heavy weather damage, ship-to-ship transfers, etc. We are however also well-versed and experienced in many other incident types involving various ship-types - ro-ro, containers, break-bulk, bulk-carriers, etc. We have also coordinated a major oil spill clean-up operation, and assisted with the processing of subsequent claims. Surveying - Chemical cargo contaminations

I gained invaluable experience with P&I Associates, investigating a wide range of marine casualties, through heavy weather and stevedore ship and cargo damage, fires, to groundings and ship-to-ship transfers, as well as conducting routine surveys such as steel pre-condition, etc. My speciality area has however, been crude oil, petroleum, or chemical tankers.

My sea-going service was conducted primarily on Product (CPP) tankers, although I also served on a small Bitumen tanker, Molasses/Vegoil carrier, Ro-Ro's, Break-bulk, Container (cellular), and General Cargo ships. I was also privileged to spend several months ashore in Head Office, on special projects or training. Subsequent experience has been on a large variety of vessel's, Bulk carriers, ULCC's, Chemical tankers, Gas tankers, and many others.
