After graduating from Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law, I moved to Chicago, Illinois, and practiced law and wrote novels until I moved to San Diego, California. In my first stint as a San Diegoan, I opted against getting my license to practice law transferred to California, a process even more grueling and terrifying than taking the Bar fresh from law school. Instead, I utilized my skills in a position outside the legal profession. During a brief return to Chicago, I entered a rewarding career as an insurance salesman. Within a year, however, I returned to my home of Los Angeles, California, where I concluded it was finally time to become a lawyer again. Despite my trepidation, I took and passed the California Bar Exam, and was sworn in to the practice in October, 2010.Between October and July, I established Michael Perl Law. I have been building a client base and developing plans to open an office (I am always looking for financial help with these endeavors). While preparing to open the new firm, I have been working as a generalist and seeking a niche for my practice. Once I have established a niche, I will focus my career, continuing education, networking events and other business building endeavors to increasing my awareness of the issues of the niche as well as making my potential clients aware of my firm.I thrive in situations where no rules seem to be appropriate. It is part of being a lawyer, so I don't think I am anything special, but even as a lawyer I stand out for this talent. My greatest strength is my ability to think. By that I mean I have a superior ability to observe a situation and understand it on many levels, why it is how it is, how it works and how it can be improved. I am able to synthesis seemingly contradictory scenarios and explain how they work on the same principles. This is an essential skill as a lawyer: utilizing many cases to support a legal argument.
