As President I was responsible for;• Analysis of data for National Student Survey, an annual survey of student satisfaction. I was able to effectively analyse and present information from the survey in order to put forward the key changes that would ensure student experience could be improved. This has resulted in Heriot-Watt rising to 4th in the UK and was voted best student experience in the UK. • Member of University Court, the senior governing body of the institution. As part of this I’ve inputted into a wide variety of decisions related to the universities international and UK operations. University Court has oversight for the finance, audit, risk, staffing and strategy for the organisation which has a turnover of £150million.• Policy and direction of Union finances, personnel and the central resources of the Union an organisation with a £3million turnover. In order to address the long term strategic direction of the organisation I instigated and contributed to the creation of our first 3 year strategic plan which involved taking a wide range of ideas and views then consolidating them into a realistic long term vision.• Relations with the media, general public and corporate image. In doing this I was able to raise the profile of the work the Union was doing. Through this I was able to lead us to winning Student Union of the year from the National Union of Students Scotland. Building on this success I secured £144k in funding from the university in order to initiate several refurbishment projects.• Promoting the aims of the Student Union and the interests of its members, through representations to the University and external bodies. I redeveloped our constitution and bye-laws to ensure that there were effective governance structures in place to ensure that the organisation performed to its best with the interests of its members at its heart.
