I work with the data specialists at Advance Local and one of the leading independent Adobe developers to deliver these efficiencies to help the digital-to-print work flow of the 30+ newspapers that Advance produces.These tools include an extension that fetch information from databases within InDesign and style this content for the printed page, an extension that non-programers can use to create scripts that format content for print, and various scripts that automate many of the mundane and repetitive tasks that page designers encounter every day.I am responsible for maintaining, updating and improving these tools — as well as innovating new tools that help our designers. Developing templates in InDesign to streamline the production of various newspaper properties as they move to the web —taking advantage of paragraph styles and GREP to make producing the print product intuitive and fast. This is where I got my feet wet in developing tools for Adobe InDesign, from the print-centric point of view.Design and produce an interactive style guide to assist newspaper staffs to quickly learn the style and design of the publication.

Designer on the launch team and beyond for the first daily digital newspaper on the iPad. Created interactive layouts and info graphics for the app, mainly in the Sports section, concentrating on interactivity and user experience. After the Creative Director of Sports left the company, I shared the role of Design Team Leader for the Sports section.The Daily won a 2012 Webby as Best News App and 2012 Appy Award for Best Consumer Magazine/Newspaper.

The visual editorial voice of the website when we launched, conceiving and drawing the editorial cartoons that appeared on the site. Responsible for the branding of the website — it's logo and a small amount of marketing materials. Won First Place for Editorial Cartooning in 2009 from the NJPA.

I was part of a team that produced award-winning daily, Sunday and special sections. From simple, easy-to-understand charts and graphics to large historical projects, I strived to look at sports in unique and in-depth ways and assist the reporters and editors in bringing quality work to the reader on a daily deadline as well as longer-term projects.
