Both in person and remotely, I'm here to support students, teachers, and the artists in California. I lead a phenomenal local artist teaching team who positively impacts different areas through poetry, film, and dance. Last year over 6000 youth were able to write poems, attend events, and get inspired to create change.In the 2019-20 school year I coordinated a number of successful events including:6 Youth Team Poetry Slams1 Poetry Video Competition2 Online Black Voices Showcases and Fundraisers2 Mixed Art ShowsAs a response to the need for distance learning courses I lead an artist team to redesign 30+ weeks of curriculum to be taught remotely. We designed courses for summer, after-school, synchronous learning, and asynchronous learning. Finally, we created a brand new video program to keep students engaged with skills that are now more important than ever.

I founded SPARC poetry in 2011 to teach creative writing, public speaking, and social activism in schools. I realized the main thing that separated SPARC classes from any other poetry lessons, was the way community was built. Students learn creative writing while also meeting local performing artists, and interacting with students across the Bay Area to experience art as a living community. During after school events students creatively express themselves on stage to an audience who cares about them.We print annual youth anthologies featuring 100+ youth writers and artists.
