With PSC, drove the Magellan Value Added Features from an Advanced Development project to a more mainstream project, culminating in General Availability. This involves working with engineering, sales, and PSC customers, such as Home Depot and Kroger, to handle complex integration of software, hardware, and services resulting in an overall solution. Also, handled Product Management activity for PSC’s OPOS and JavaPOS projects.

Provided leadership and strategy to a group of 100+ managers, product managers, software engineers, architects, professional services consultants, and technicians. Developed overall Store Automation software strategy, with a focus on reusable components across a number of regional applications. Managed the architecture, development, support, and professional services teams in delivery of 2 key NCR POS solutions, ACS and AS/R. Improved profitability of ACS, NCR’s solution for US Food POS, from -$x.yM to +$w.zM in two years. Delivered on commitments and managed at or under an 8-figure budget. Led our team’s initiatives in quality, especially in the areas of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM). Developed a new advanced development process to stimulate engineers to bring new ideas to fruition. Continued to have nearly constant customer interaction and drive new customer ideas into our solutions.

Set overall NCR architecture for all retail solutions. This included overall technical and business strategy for architecture consulting, POS operating systems, applications, and systems management. Created a store to enterprise retail architecture. Managed a group of 8-10 high-level engineers and architects. Represented NCR on a number of standards bodies, and was elected to the Board of Directors of the Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS). Represented RSG on the NCR Architecture Council and the NCR Privacy Steering Committee. Represented NCR representative in ActiveStore, a Microsoft-led initiative to simplify application integration in-store. Served on the Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS) Board of Directors. Led initiatives to drive cooperation between various industry standards bodies.

Responsibilities include overall IBM architecture for all retail in-store software and services. This included overall business and technical strategy for Point of Sale operating systems and applications; in-store processing applications, such as Inventory Management, Labor Management, Clientelling, and Gift Registry; tools; and unifying frameworks. Provided technical direction to the entire software and services development organization, which totaled 250 people. Interfaced with other IBM labs on product strategies and plans. Incorporated new IBM and other vendors' emerging technologies into retail solutions. Made presentations to customers on our overall strategy and how to migrate to our new solutions while protecting their investment in current solutions. Worked with business partners in the supermarket, retail, and hospitality segments to assist them in selling and supporting IBM solutions. Provided people management for a team of 16 top associates.

The major responsibility of this position was to set overall architecture and strategy for the 4680 and 4690 family of in-store products. These products included 4680 and 4690 operating systems; applications for all segments of Point of Sale; and tools. Other responsibilities included customer presentations, driving quality improvements, Year 2000 readiness evaluation of our products, and leading dozens of new development projects.
