I’m currently a 4th year student at UC San Diego majoring in Structural Engineering. I am currently an IDEA Scholar, which brings together highly motivated engineering students of many diverse backgrounds to form a community looking to help each other excel in academics as well as in professional jobs. I have been a member for two years now and plan to continue this membership throughout my entire college career. Outside of academics, I am also heavily involved in training and competing in Division I track and field at UC San Diego where I am a high jumper, long jumper, and triple jumper. I have found great success in track and field and especially in high jump. In high jump, I am currently the 6th best high jumper of all time in UC San Diego’s history and have a personal best jump of 6’11” (2.11m). I plan on continuing to move up that list in the rest of my time at UC San Diego.Although track is technically an individual sport, the team aspect is the most important to me. I always make sure to be there for my teammates as I know they are there for me. Together in practice and competitions, our teamwork helps us reach individual marks we never thought were possible. I have also been able to develop skills such as time management, prioritization, determination, and self control through my journey as a Division I track athlete studying structural engineering. As a scholar athlete, it was critical for me to manage rigorous daily track practice with the demands of a difficult academic course load. With these skills I have developed, I have been able to find success in both track and field and structural engineering and plan to continue to use these skills in the future as I look to start a career in engineering.
