John Guest is the leading manufacturer of plastic push-fit fittings, including pipe fittings and valves for home and commercial plumbing and drinking systems. During my placement I worked on various projects for different applications in all stages of their design process. From the initial ideation around a new concept for the application, production of industry standard technical drawings, modifications dependant on injection molding, manufacture and testing.At John Guest I had responsibility over various tasks, including:• Complex CAD models containing numerous components • Producing and improving complex assemblies in SolidWorks, in preparation for injection molding• Inspection of commissioned injection mold runs looking for imperfections• British Standard Testing• Production Engineering regarding certain aspects of the products assembly I reported to both the Director of Engineering and my Line Manager directly. My technical drawings were presented to various teams, including the Engineering department, Production , Inspection and Testing. The drawings also allowed me to liaise with John Guest's suppliers across the UK for relevant graded plastics, to abide with British and European Standards.

Since July 2014 I have worked in a variety of roles at Bocketts Farm in Surrey. This is a highly successful working family activity farm, one of the most successful all weather places in the South East of England. I have worked both as part of the Saturday and Sunday team as well as the full time team during the week when I am back from University.I undertook a variety of tasks where I meet and greet people making sure they have a great time on all the activities. I was one of the few tractor drivers given the responsibility to tow a trailer of up to 40 visitors around the farm giving them a guided tour and answering questions. I also showed school parties around the farm meeting them from the coach, going through safety briefings and taking them on a tour of the farm which hopefully gives them a day to remember. Having this interaction with the public has really helped with my confidence and public speaking.

While working for Omlet Ltd as part of a Student University Project, I learned various new techniques. these were applied to the brief in which we had to produce a product range that would innovate the dog lead market and ensure that Omlet stood out from the competition. Some skills I applied to this project were: • Use of keyshot rendering software to produce photo realistic renders.• Engineering calculations to work out stresses applied to the concept.• FEA using SolidWorks (FEA) to simulate life like scenarios when walking the dog and the strain that could put on our concept.• User Testing where we took dogs on walks to test out the final concept and assist with development.• Collaborative brainstorming with other members of the department and also Omlet Ltd employees.• High and Low fidelity prototypes to validate concepts.

During my course, I worked with Pelico as a live client where I redesigned their food packaging, optimizing it for transport by delivery workers. This gave me a chance to work with a real client and tackle their brief.
