Brian Grainger is a bearded recluse living in a midwestern valley. He was born on the subtropical south-eastern coast of the USA in 1983. Brian has recorded and released music under many different names, including (but not limited to) Milieu, Coppice Halifax, Limestone Ziggurat, Bike, Vhom and his birthname. Brian is a polymath (according to Byron Coley at Wire magazine) who, since 2003, has issued over 1000 albums, EPs and singles, many of them independently published at Milieu Music via the White Pillar Workshop, on every format from cassette to vinyl. Brian is also an active member of Extra, a collaborative duo with Howard Stelzer.Outside of Milieu Music, Brian has issued music with dozens of record labels around the world, including Attacknine, Celebrate Psi Phenomenon, Neo Ouija, Echospace [Detroit], Wil Ru, El Paraiso, Awkward Silence, Txt, Shimmering Moods, Opal Tapes, U-Cover, Infraction, GOTO, Chocolate Monk, Steep Gloss, Móatún 7, Illuminated Paths, Boltfish, I, Absentee, Touched UK, Infraklang, Ferro Tapes, A Strangely Isolated Place, Neotantra, Entropy, ROHS, Zakè Drone Recordings, Love Earth Music, Past Inside The Present, Contemporary Vision, Cold Fiction, Adventurous Music, Humanhood, Install, Forest Roots and Expanding Electronic Diversity. Brian has done regular scoring and soundtrack work for various formats - from nature documentaries on the Discovery Channel and PBS, to independent short films like "Der Letzte Kupferdrucker" and "Dear Joni," and video game soundtracking on the 2009 Omni Systems strategy game Eufloria (currently available on several consoles and OS platforms) or the mobile math game ZEN. He has also contributed music to various advertisements for Austrian photography magazine Auslöser and American art/furniture company Submaterial.Brian also maintains two boutique label imprints aside from Milieu Music: Recycled Plastics, a playground for bedroom-produced electronics, and Psoma Psi Phi, a sister-label to Recycled Plastics focusing on beatless sound and experimentalism. Additionally, he operates Analog Botany Mastering & Design, an audio mastering service sporting a long list of clients and affordable rates.
