Director - Applications Pin

I was brought into the APM organization by the Senior VP of Technology to provide UX guidance on a stalled time dependent project. (See Consultant below) After successfully guiding the team in the right direction I was tasked to transform the current development team and the internal application support organization into a world class applications development group. In this role I managed three distributed cross functional teams in the organization. In less than a year all goals were met and a number of products were developed and released. I managed the development and delivery of a consumer news source web application pinsource.org and the redesign and rewrite of a backend reporter CRM web application, called AIR, that is used to manage the customer relations with news sources. I led the delivery of multiple APM news and information related iOS applications. Out of a small unfocused team of engineers I established a clear development framework, tools and processes, (LAMP, Java, JavaScript, Objective C, etc.) built a QA test team and spread these methodologies throughout the internal organization delivering internal and external applications and tools for APM that were on time and of world class quality. My team also delivered a completely new CMS platform for the website of the well known radio show Marketplace.

Engineering Manager And Co-Creator - Aperture

1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, Ca

As manager of the Aperture development team I had the unique opportunity to bring to life one of the most innovative tools ever created. In partnership with my technical lead I assembled the creative development team composed of engineering, test, marketing and design and an infrastructure to create and implement Aperture. I created a unique and highly collaborative environment and one in which the whole team was immersed in the world of photography. As a result, an unprecedented number of new and innovative ideas came to life and proved to make Aperture stand out ahead of its time.Aperture is revolutionary in taking the physical metaphors of the analog photography world and bringing them to life in the digital world. Our focus was on providing a complete solution for the workflow of the serious digital photographer. We accomplished all of our goals and released Aperture six months ahead of our nearest competitor who copied a number of our innovations. As a result of this effort we generated five new patents that cover over a dozen new concepts. I was fortunate to have my name on two of these patents. In the course of development I managed engineering relationships with engineering teams from Canon, Nikon and Epson. Not only did we develop a new tool for serious photographers but we created a new market and a new product space - Post Production Photography. After only a few short months critics and customers were using Aperture as the benchmark by which all other management and post production photographic tools are measured. I am very proud that thorough the unrelenting drive of both development efforts, Aperture and Final Cut Pro have together generated close to $3 Billion in revenue to date.
