As Senior Representative of the Council in the region starting September 1, I will be responsible for overseeing the Council's six branch offices in the region and leading the Council's efforts in the region in Advocacy, Representation, Membership Expansion and Relationship Management with members, US and ASEAN Governments and other stakeholders both frowning and domestic.

Assigned by the State Department to the host committee. Work to integrate the private sector into the APEC process. Work hard to ensure that lines of communication are open, encourage participation including attendance and sponsorship where appropriate from both US private sector and international private sector. Work with Government to promote APEC and an Open trade policy in general, focusing on Korus, APEC and Trans Pacific Partnership in particular.

Responsible for managing the totality of the relationship between Vietnam and the United States including but not limited to Economic Commercial relations especially advocating on behalf of American firms; Political issues especially Human Rights, Bilateral and Multilateral issues and various liaison responsibilities; Military to Military relations, Health Diplomacy, Education.

Responsible for managing the entire US economic and counter-terrorism agenda during all or significant parts of the Korean, Vietnam and Australian year. Coordinated policy among some thirty diverse US departments and organizations. Worked with USTR on planning that later became the Trans Pacific Partnership, Suggested and pushed through US hosting of APEC in 2011. Worked on Bilateral Economic issues throughout the region as well as economic aspects of US-ASEAN relations.

Responsible for managing the day to day operations at one of America’s most important embassies. Coordinating among 20 some different departments and organizations having offices in Japan. Responsible for effective functioning of Personnel, Resource management, policy guidance and, of course, keeping Ambassador Howard Baker well briefed on US-Japan issues. Dealt with military base issues, market access, especially beef, regulatory reform issues, etc.

Worked at the State Department at our embassies in Japan, China, Pakistan and Australia as well as on country desks in Washington for Japan, China and Regional economic relations. I was also assigned to the National Center for APEC and worked on APEC in Seattle in the late 90’s.
