• Developed key components for Settlement, the messaging solution to settle the cash side of the funds trade from EMX routing via CREST (UK-based Central Securities Depository). Extensive development work with IBM WebSphere MQ and JMS; Designed and implemented BT gateway test harness to simulate the gateway behavior, used as an useful tool by test team; Built utilities with MQ PCF (programmable command format) to manage MQ programmatically; Technology: Java, Spring, IBM MQ, JMS, SQL Server. • Re engineered HeartbeatMonitor. The original application need a dedicated Windows server due to its large consumption on CPU and memory; Crashed quite often and required constant support; The revitalized version implemented by myself co-locates with many other processes on Linux server, running on neglectable resource consumption; Provided richer functionality, accurate statistics and has been a vital and reliable monitoring tool since. In fact, not one issue reported since it went live from 2009. Technology: Java, QuickFIX• Redesigned and implemented LogMonitor, scans application logs and alert on certain matched pattern. The old implementation was hard to maintain and require code changes on each new request. The new design is centrally managed, rule set based, fast because it is incremental scan and data driven. Many more applications and search pattern have been added without code change. Technology: Java, Regular Expression, data model• Re-engineered MisExtract, a backend batch process to transfer data from EMX to MIS (the old data repository before CDR). My new implementation reduced the data loading time from 50 ~ 90 minutes down to 2~4 minutes through carefully analysis the extraction process and apply optimized algorithm. The old implementation occupied a large time slot in maintenance window and often cause issues when overlapping with other maintenance task. • Integrated legacy HD PAD2 C Library through JNI (Java Native Interface) to Mandles, the application provides digital radio station the ability to schedule the display text. Designed and implemented Dalet simulator with Java NIO to improve IO performance interfaced with legacy device; Introduced concurrency pattern into system architect to decouple the transport layer from the rest of the application to minimize the impact of unpredictable behaviour of legacy hardware; Technology: JSF, Java nio, concurrency, JNI, Postgres.• Designed and implemented a simulator to evaluate and benchmark Object-Relational persistence solution including Hibernate, iBatis and Spring JDBC for EPG (Electronic Programme Guide), the electronic version of a printed programme guide, broadcast alongside radio. Prototyped and migrated legacy EPG to Spring framework and Hibernate based architecture; Accommodated non functional requirements such as multi platform, multi EPG specification support, performance, extensibility, scalability and manageability; Implemented EPG web slave, the pre-phased solution for EPG with distinctive performance improvement; Technology: Core Java, Spring framework, Hibernate, iBatis, Postgres.• Implemented functional enhancement and bug fix to schedule Editor, a .Net C# client application. Although was not regarded as C# developer, have fixed defects left by the outsourced C# developer and developed new/enhanced functionality. Technology: Java Servlet/JSP, Hyperwave, javascript• Re-engineered Invoice loader and CDR loader, the backend batch processes to move invoice/CDR data between systems; The full development cycle took under 3 weeks for me , while over 6 months for the original implementation. The new version has greatly improved maintainability, performance (Processing time of 1000 invoices reduced from 1 hour to under 1 minute) and extensibility. As 13 countries vary in its filename naming convention, loading frequency, CDR type and processing rules, change request is required on each new added CDR type with the old process, while the new design accommodated such change as configurable property, thus new type can be catered for without code change which is very cost effective. Technology: Perl.• Volunteered to analyse a revenue impacting issues on a BT-CPS interface, rewrote the whole integration code within 2 weeks in contrast to over 6 months originally taken by 2 developers. The new implementation resolved the instability issue and improved the processing speed nearly 20 times. It also a big cost saving as original proposal was investing in new hardware. Received company award for outstanding performance.
