Profile bio

About Mina Quesen

Hello! As a quick introduction, I am a first year PhD Student at Brown University who is interesting in creating and elevating stories from marginalized communities. I aim to continue finding pathways to amplify underrepresented voices in the stories we consume. I write short fiction and essay reflections focused on identity and family, usually through a fantastical lens. Beyond my writing, I encourage and empower other marginalized students through college coaching and tutoring in story telling and self advocating. What matters to me in my career is a diverse and innovative space where I can continue to empower and support marginalized youth through storytelling. I am studying the connection between Asian and Latina women writing about monsters to better understand how these women interpret family dynamics in various social contexts. This work gives me the opportunity to dig deeper into my interests in speculative fiction and the voices of marginalized communities. I have a passion for supporting marginalized youth through finding their voice in storytelling as well as collaborating with writers to develop the strongest version of their piece for print. My positions in UnidosNow and Nassau Weekly not only allowed me to develop strong leadership and communication skills, but helped me identify my research interest in women of color authors. I look forward to continuing to be critically engaged with women of color literature and discovering new ways to uplift marginalized voices.
