I educated and trained residents ages 55 to 103 years on strengthening their daily life activities to become more independent in order to return home. I managed a team of 13 staff of varied therapists for 2 months by delegating duties, scheduling, daily and weekly billing plans, and insurance verifications. I developed and performed over 30 health and wellness classes for independent living residents with topics such as fall safety, heart health, nutrition, pain management, and balance. I trained 3 students to mastering their OT skills to become great therapist assistants.

I worked in a large team treating geriatric resident's with various medical diagnoses to achieve goals set by the Occupational Therapist to maximize their fullest potential of independence to return to the next level of care. I assisted 100's of residents in returning to their homes and/ or other living facilties from a skilled nursing setting. I assessed utilizing standardized tests and evaluated homes for safety and durable medical equipment needs to improve continum of care.

I specialized in treating geriatric residents in skilled nursing, outpatient, and personal care settings. I managed a 4 to 5 person rehabilitation team in outpatient personal care setting by delegating roles, billing services, insurance verifications, scheduling, attending patient care meetings, training staff on safety and proper body mechanics, and family and resident education. I organized and ran a popular monthly wellness and safety inservices for staff and residents regarding topics such as fall safety, use of adaptive equipment, Parkinsons support, Alzheimers support, and heart health.

I held several positions during my experience at Healthsouth. I began as a rehabilatation tech in 2001 right out of school and quickly moved up to aquatic specialist which I coached and trained geriatrics and pediatrics water exercises while mainaining day to day operations of the pool. I was able to obtain my OTA license at that time and began my career in OT. I was able to learn every possible area that Healthsouth had to offer including inpatient acute, brain injury, young stroke outpatient, community based services, hand therapy, and long term acute care which focused on ventilators. Couldn't have asked for a better start to my OT career after learning so much!
