Michaela (Misha) Sidenberg is a Czech-born art historian and museum curator. As she was finishing her master’s in Art History at Charles University in Prague, she joined the Jewish Museum in Prague (JMP) as visual arts curator (1996). Her primary responsibility has been the management of the JMP collection of visual arts, and she has participated in many international exhibitions throughout North America, Australia, Japan, and Europe, focusing on a wide variety of aspects of Jewish history and culture. • One of the HEAC 2009 results was the establishment of the European Shoah Legacy Institute (ESLI). Sidenberg was nominated to its Board of Directors and served two full terms (2010-2017) as one of the six Administrative Board members. In this capacity she oversaw the ESLI agenda concerning movable property (Looted Art & Judaica), issues pertaining to identification and documentation of looted and otherwise misappropriated movable cultural assets, funding and facilitating provenance research activities in individual endorsing countries, monitoring the situation on the global art market, advocacy for transparency and problem solving regarding conflicting legislation on the national as well as EU/international levels. • Both her work for the JMP (1996 to the present) and her role as the board member for ESLI (2010-2017) have been an excellent opportunity for Sidenberg to gain a wealth of first-hand experience, such as cooperation with individual experts and grass-roots organizations, members of the diplomatic community, national and international NGOs, as well as governmental and intergovernmental organizations. • Sidenberg is also active as an independent consultant and curator, working mostly with contemporary documentary photographers and photojournalists who are covering conflicts, disasters, and their aftermaths in addition to the daily life of various ethnic groups around the world.
