I collect water samples and other water quality related data for surface waters across the Central Coast. The data collected onsite includes stream flow, chlorophyll levels, and a suite of water quality measurements including pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, etc. I am responsible for precise instrument calibration, and must follow steps for quality assurance of the measurements and water samples taken.

I work in the irrigated lands regulatory program (ILRP) focusing on surface and groundwater quality data analysis. I use spatial analysis tools like ArcGIS to identify problem areas and gather data to justify management recommendations and decisions. A new set of agricultural regulations is currently being drafted, and I have been assisting staff with various aspects of this undertaking including performing data analysis and writing reports summarizing the findings of these analyses and methods I used to reach my conclusions. I also been helping to assess one of the Waterboard surface water monitoring programs, CCAMP. I am using statistical analysis, existing data, and site knowledge to identify areas where more monitoring sites are needed, and to identify unnecessary sites.

I assisted graduate student Adrian Broz with the experimental design and implementation of his masters thesis project. This project aimed to assess the viability of substituting some synthetic fertilizer application to strawberries with an organic fertilizer source called vermicompost. I helped with experimental setup as well as monitoring and data collection.
