Such a cognitive disconnect has enabled the unprecedented degradation of our natural capital leading to the disruption of critical ecological systems and the compounded exacerbation of issues deemed to be of higher concern. We believe humans are a well-intentioned species with the shared goals of being happy, healthy, safe, and free and it is simply an irrational and illogical behavior to cut the cord to one’s oxygen, money and water supply.Yet, we do it daily. While there are many layers of reasoning as to why we behave in such a way, it is our belief that the biggest is lack of education. The environment is one of the most complex, multi-faceted and interconnected systems that has taken generations of PhD level research to even scratch the surface of understanding. When you add major barriers to education, socioeconomic stressors, brain circuitry and other variables to the equation, we simply cannot blame people for such cognitive dissonance. And instead of using shame we can use science and technology to re-engineer what’s going on behind the scenes to unveil the reality so many of us struggle to see.Our mission with Numanity is to show people their interconnectedness with nature through immersive, environmental expert-led education uniquely curated to each person’s values, interests and learning style. Our digital platform will offer a fun and engaging experience designed using years of environmental and behavioral psychology research to effectively address this critical gap in understanding.
