Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer
As a Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer, my job was to enforce state and federal game, fish, and boating laws in the state of North Carolina. I was required to be sworn as a law enforcement officer and completed an 850 hour training academy; as well as, 6 months of OJT. To maintain certification, in-service training is conducted annually.- Experience considerable public contact, often to explain game, fish, and boat laws and regulations to individuals and organizations and to present safety promotion programs. This was not limited to my assigned area but often extended throughout the entire State of NC and involved relationship building with agencies outside the state of NC.- Patrol fields, forests, and inland waters in automobiles, in boats, on ATVs and on foot.- Seize illegal hunting and fishing devices and all game and fish taken illegally.- Investigate violations, arrests violators, and prepare for court proceedings with the use of comprehensive investigation reports.- Check boats for proper certification and boating equipment and observe boat operation for detection and apprehension of reckless or impaired operators.- Assist in search and rescue operations for the victims of boating accidents or for lost hunters and anglers.- Apply knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations relating to the protection and management of game and fish, and to boating and motor vehicle laws of North Carolina.- Demonstrate skills in the use of firearms and hunting and fishing equipment; as well as, outboard motor boats, automobiles and other vehicles.- Teach hunter education and boater education certification classes.- Instructed in the Wildlife Law Enforcement Academy in multiple blocks of instruction.- Specialized Firearms Instructor, Rapid Deployment Instructor.- Certified as a Level 2 Boat Crash Investigator. Order and replace faulty equipment.- Responsible for wartime mission capability and required operational success per the Navy Afloat Training Group qualification and testing.- Once aboard the ship, trained in the operation of all related and support systems for the gun weapon system for which I was responsible. Included pneumatic and hydraulic systems that are integral for the success of the operations. - Ensured that the electronic systems responsible for operation integrated with the mechanical systems required for execution of the mission. Troubleshoot and repair all related systems with the use of digital diagram programs and paper schematic blueprints.
