As the Principal Engineer in the Health and Safety organization, I help combat spam, harassment, and other harmful behavior with NLP, machine learning models, LLMs, and Go microservices. I've refined processes, revitalized stand-ups, authored the Health Engineering Strategy, and created a framework for adopting of technical tools and techniques.I mentor engineers across the company in the Monetization, Security, Data Platform, and Creator Products organizations. Within Health I coach top engineers, creating custom curricula to address skill gaps and discussing key design decisions with them.Staying hands-on, I implemented services to integrate Amazon Ads and Twitch Safety systems, shipped changes to reduce maintenance costs, and created proof-of-concept prototypes.Engineers at Twitch use my expertise with data-intensive, near real-time systems to build and improve data pipelines. I also maintain infrastructure libraries used to deliver batch and streaming jobs.

Hired as a frontend expert to accelerate product delivery. Led Ember.js and React development work for creator-centric features like Video Uploads, Stream Summary, Channel Analytics, Raids, and Achievements. Twitch's 10 million active streamers use these products to grow their business.Worked on foundational frontend technologies including cross-framework component embedding, custom TypeScript linting, and experimentation used by 350+ developers.Transitioned to data engineering in 2019 for Creator Dashboards where I shut down custom Go services and replaced them with Airflow, Flink, and Druid. This initiative decreased the time to add new metrics from two weeks to two days, sped up multiyear queries (>10s to 1.65s), and decreased metric delay from 1.5hr to <1m. Operational costs for creator analytics systems decreased by 36% after this change. In the course of this work I contributed upstream to Druid and AWS’s CDK.Founded the Data Products Working Group to level up Twitch’s data tooling for product engineers. This covered three use cases: streaming analytics, resilient batch processing, and timeseries data stores. The artifacts and collaboration in this group yielded machine learning pipelines and analytics features powering fraud detection, trust and safety moderation, recommendations, and advertisement metrics.
