The future of our American economy lies in the individual’s ability to build and manage wealth, their personal wealth as well as that of the organizations they start and lead. Depending on how you look at it, I’m an old Millennial or a young Gen Y. There aren’t very many of us that have the deep knowledge and experience in financial services that I do (or at least I haven’t met them).While working for Fidelity, I had what I’ll call a “lattice” approach to climbing the corporate “ladder.” In retrospect, this was the best type of professional development that I could have experienced. It’s given me a broad set of skills, experience, knowledge and more than anything, perspective of financial services and the people we serve.As I was transitioning out of Fidelity, preparing for my “what next” career move, I had an ah-ha moment and decided that this was an opportunity to spend time with my young son. I became the primary caregiver of Oscar, my pride and joy. This time has also been a strategic sabbatical as I’ve continued to study, take classes, explore, research, etc. the changing world of financial services.As Oscar is growing, so am I and it’s time for me to continue to build my career. I know that I’m going to look back and be SO grateful that I 1) had this precious time with Oscar and 2) have continued to learn and stay up-to-date.I’ve developed a passion for FinTech (Financial Technology) and am actively exploring opportunities within this budding field. I’ve also learned that I’m a strategist at heart and that it’s a skill that is in high demand so I’m exploring the diverse title of Strategy Manager as well.
